Atlas Dark Sky

Illuminating the Future: Atlas Dark Sky Project

ATLAS

The Atlas Dark Sky Project is a pioneering initiative to create the world’s largest International Dark Sky Reserve, encompassing the Toubkal National Park. Certified by the International Dark-Sky Association (IDA), this reserve will preserve exceptional night skies for scientific, educational, and environmental purposes.

Led by research teams from Cadi Ayyad University, the project collaborates with institutional and associative partners from the region, as well as international organizations dedicated to protecting night skies. If approved, it will be North Africa’s first certified reserve and the largest globally, with an 80 km radius.

The initiative aligns with the university’s commitment to sustainability, reducing light pollution, and fostering socio-economic benefits for local communities. Building on the legacy of the COP 22 Conference in Marrakech, this project aims to inspire sustainable development and environmental stewardship.
